ACCA joins AccountAbility
ACCA's head of auditing practice appointed to technical committee of the leading environmental reporting campaign group
08 Feb 2007
David York, head of auditing practice at ACCA, has recently been appointed onto the technical committee of AccountAbility, the leading environmental reporting campaign group.
ACCA has long-standing expertise in the environmental reporting arena and has established Sustainability Reporting Awards Schemes throughout Europe, Africa, North America and the Asia-Pacific region. David works closely with the European Federation of Accountants (FEE), which recently called on international standards setters to issue a specific assurance standard for sustainability reports.
York said: 'I am delighted with this appointment and hope to contribute to maintaining the highest level of technical quality in the work of Accountability.
'My experience of international auditing and assurance standards for the accountancy profession may be particularly relevant to AccountAbility's continued development of the AA1000 Assurance Standard - which is widely used by those providing independent assurance reports on corporate social responsibility and sustainability reports. Advances in assurance can only benefit stakeholders who are concerned to improve sustainability performance.'
Alan Knight, head of standards at AccountAbility commented: 'AccountAbility is very pleased that David has agreed to join the technical committee. The committee strives to ensure both stakeholder balance and leading expertise. David brings recognised expertise and valuable experience from the financial community. We welcome him to the committee and look forward to his contribution.'
AccountAbility is a non-profit membership organisation, established in 1995 to promote accountability innovations that advance responsible business practices and the broader accountability of civil society and public organisations.
Established in 2003 by AccountAbility's Council, the AccountAbility Technical Committee is responsible for the technical quality of all AA1000 Series Standards and the formal Guidance Notes that support the Standards. It is responsible for ensuring the adequacy of the standards development process.
