Supporting knowledge transfer
ACCA Research Committee wins £50,000 ESRC grant
27 Jun 2007
ACCA's Research Committee has been awarded £50,000 by the ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) for applied research in two spheres in which ACCA has keen interest and experience: financial services and SMEs and intangible assets.
Although initially these projects will have a UK focus, it is expected that the research will be capable of replication internationally among many of the regions in which ACCA has members and students. This enviable transferability will help to ensure that these activities have impact and value around the world.
This, not insignificant, award from a prestigious funding body is a strong endorsement of the quality and reputation of the work of ACCA's respected Research Committee and reflects our organisations’ shared goal of bolstering business through quality research & the generation of new knowledge.
Applied research
The ESRC grant will allow ACCA to continue its drive to encourage greater ongoing collaboration and two-way knowledge transfer between academics and those working in business.
In July ACCA’s Research Committee hosted two, high-level forums with delegates from both within and outside academia, to help identify key, industry-relevant questions that future applied research can address, surrounding:
- the accountability of the financial services sector to its stakeholders and to society more generally
- intangible assets in SMEs.
The Committee will shortly commission two empirical research projects (one in each sector), each addressing a key question posed by forum participants; we'll report progress on these in a later edition of LINK.
Additionally, ACCA is keen to encourage cross-working placements, academic to business and business person to academia, in each of the two sectors, which will be generously supported by the ESRC.
ACCA's Research Committee
ACCA's Research Committee brings together some of the leading figures in the profession around the world. Respected thinkers drawn from academia and the wider profession come together regularly to inform and maintain the quality, relevance and freshness of ACCA’s research programme. Together, ACCA's research committee members represent a formidable strength, allowing ACCA to address with confidence the major issues emerging in business and the finance profession today.
'ACCA is justly proud of its well-respected research programme, which generates high-quality, cutting-edge research with international focus and strong emphasis on business relevance and public policy influence' said Professor Barry Cooper FCCA, Chair of ACCA's Research Committee. 'The ESRC award recognises our strength in commissioning, and disseminating, research projects that have value to a wide range of audiences around the world.'
