Monash and SARS launch ACCA tuition programme
01 Jul 2005
The South African Revenue Services (SARS), one of ACCA's biggest accredited employers in South Africa, contracted Monash South Africa and ATCOR to offer tuition provision and support for its employees who are on the ACCA programme.
Some 40 very excited SARS employees gathered at the Monash Ruimsig campus in July to eagerly meet their lecturers and begin their ACCA studies. They came from across the country - Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, Vanderbijl Park, Pretoria and Johannesburg - ready to tackle the new semester. The ACCA qualification has been warmly embraced by SARS, and in particular, by the SARS Academy who are responsible for training and development of SARS employees. Philisa Jordaan was the first SARS employee to successfully complete the final core ACCA papers in December 2004, and she remains a shining example to all her other colleagues on the ACCA Programme.
Monash South Africa offered tuition in some of the Part 2 and Part 3 papers this semester and has committed to offering the full ACCA Programme in Part 2 (2.1, 2,2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6) and Part 3 (3.1, 3.2, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7) next year. Peter Schelluch, Director of Accounting at the School of Business and Economics at Monash South Africa, said that he was very excited that the programme is got off the ground. "Monash is committed to upholding the high standard of ACCA examinations through their well - qualified lecturers, who will offer students invaluable support through block release classes and web-based programmes", said Peter.
SARS students were equally excited. " Studying alone is not easy, you don't know whether you are on the right track or not" was a student's comment. Another quipped, "This is the first day of lectures, and I already feel the relief of having someone to relate to regarding my studies". " With the kind of tuition support I am getting now, I feel that I am definitely going to pass the upcoming examinations", said a third student, very confidently. ACCA South Africa hosted a lunch at Monash to welcome on board the students, Monash and SARS and to show ACCA's commitment to its partners.
Nirri Nair, Head of ACCA South Africa, welcomed the students in particular and encouraged them to make valuable use of the opportunity offered to them by their employer, SARS, and Monash. "Students are the best brand ambassadors for ACCA in South Africa and we wish you well in your ACCA studies" was Nirri's message.
