ACCA South Africa celebrates the success of its graduates
18 Oct 2005
Norman Mbazima, FCCA and Chief Financial Officer of Anglo American Coal, congratulated and welcomed new members and affiliates to ACCA membership, at ACCA's graduation ceremony, which was held at the Park Hyatt Hotel, Rosebank on the 18 th October 2005.
The evening saw 34 graduates honoured for their dedication, commitment and success in passing the ACCA and CAT examinations between December 2003 and June 2004. Of the 34 graduates, 17 have already been admitted to membership and can use the designation "ACCA". This highlights one of the benefits of training through ACCA - you can study while doing your practical training, and be admitted to membership soon after your last examination.
Eleven of the 34 graduates passed the Certified Accounting Technician examinations in the same period and two have already been admitted to CAT status, while others are proceeding with Part 2 of the professional qualification examinations.
In his keynote address, Norman highlighted the value of ACCA membership and quoted success stories of ACCA members in the region. "Our success is dependent, as much on the involvement of our members, as it is on the reputation for excellence and integrity which you enjoy", he said.
Nirri Nair, Head of ACCA South Africa, shared the platform with Goleele Mosinyi, FCCA, in ensuring that the evening's programme ran smoothly. Reading out each graduate's profile during the awarding of certificates, Nirri gave the occasion an intense meaning. Some of the profiles reflected the pain and struggle that ACCA students put up with, but also portrayed the huge reward and opportunity that now awaits the graduates. Many of the graduates already hold senior positions across the economic spectrum.
The Tribhangi Dance Theatre entertained guests whilst they dined at the Ceremony. Representing a fusion of Afro-Indian dance, the Tribhangi dancers scintillated guests with their rhythm, agility and cross-fertilisation of dance forms. Some of the other guests who graced the occasion were Terence Nombembe, Jan van Schalkwyk and Zahn Hulm from the Office of the Auditor General, Mike Clancy from the South African Revenue Services Academy, Nawaal Patel from FASSET, Basiami Disipi from Courier Freight Group, Jabu Malindi from the Department of Education, Andrew West from Monash and Vashna Rawjee and Trudy Strydom from ATCOR.
Simon Turner, FCCA, concluded the occasion by thanking everybody, who took time off to celebrate with the graduates and ACCA South Africa.
