Live the ride!
25 Mar 2006
ACCA South Africa , in its quest to make the ACCA experience a good one for students, hosts a Student Fun day. The objective is for students to meet other ACCA students, form networks and relationships going forward and generally have a whole load of fun.
Gold Reef City, with rides like 'the Anaconda', 'Wheel of Terror' and 'Runaway Train' was chosen as this semester's Student Fun day venue, which was hosted on Saturday, 25th March 2006. Overcast and cold weather were not strong enough deterrents to the 110 students who were intent on having some fun.
The main activity on Saturday centred around a Treasure hunt - but with a twist! Teams, comprising of ten students, had to first solve 5 riddles, which revealed the names of different rides and then 2 members of the team had to climb aboard and experience the ride, until all members had experienced a piece of the action, so to speak. Definitely not for the faint-hearted, but full credit to Team leaders who chose wisely in terms of which members rode which rides.
Two teams reached point X (being the Shaft Restaurant) simultaneously, thus winning the first prize. The first three teams were awarded vouchers from Musica - so if you happen to see an ACCA student tapping his feet to the rhythm of music, chances are that he is listening to his prize! A big thank you goes to FASSET (Seta for Finance, Accounting and Management Accounting), who very kindly sponsored the prizes.
Students were also treated to an underground tour, where donned with helmets, they were taken into the bowels of the Earth and given a shot at digging out the gold from the rocks. No luck there, but the experience was worth all the gold in the world.
After expending all that energy on the Treasure Hunt, and surviving the Underground tour, students were then treated to lunch.
Nirri Nair, Head of ACCA South Africa, says, "The ACCA fun day enables students to put their goals into perspective. Success definitely comes to those who work hard, and play hard"
"The activities also help students develop qualities like leadership, working in a team, strategising and creating solutions".
